About Kannada Newspapers:
According to variousscholars, Kannada Samachar was the first Kannada newspaper published in India as a journal.
However, others hold that Mangaloora Samachar was the first newspaper in Kannada.
Later on, during the 18th century, Subudhi Prakasha, Mahilaasakhi, Kannada Vaatika, Amnodaya and Sarvamitra started publishing.
Therafter, in independent India many others were started, some of which continue till this day.
Presently, according to IRS Q1 2011, Vijay Karnataka has the largest circulation with a readership base of 34,70000. Vijay Karnataka started publication in October 1999.
Prajavani, which had the largest readership for over fifty years now comes second with a readership base of 34,03000. It was started by Mr. K.N. Guruswamy in 1948 and is owned by The Printers (Mysore) Private Limited.
