About Punjabi Newspapers
The first quarter of IRS 2011 has revealed that 7 out of 10 punjabi newspapers have seen heavy losses.
The leading Punjabi newspaper is Ajit which managed to retain its readership in this quarter.
Its AIR stands at 11.23 lakh in IRS Q1 2011 as compared to 11.18 lakh in the last survey and 10.58 lakh in IRS Q1 2010. Thus the paper has grown by more than 6% over the past one year.Losing more than 6% readers in the current quarter, Punjab Kesri has slipped down to No.3 position in the state.
Its current AIR stands at 10.05 lakh as compared to 10.7 lakh in the previous quarter and 11.50 lakh in IRS Q1 2010. Thus the daily has registered a decline of 12.6% over the past one year. The No.4 daily of Punjab Dainik Bhaskar has managed to add a few readers this quarter.
It has recorded an AIR of 8.62 lakh in IRS Q1 2011 as compared to 8.49 lakh in the previous quarter and 8.28 lakh in IRS Q1 2010. The readership of Punjab's 5 th largest read daily Dainik Jagran is on decline and the daily has lost 6.7% readers in the current survey and more than 20% readers over the past one year. Its current AIR stands at 7.64 lakh as compared to 8.19 lakh in the last survey and 9.58 lakh in IRS Q1 2010.
