'Teach the Teachers' programme being launched. A special cell in SCERT set up for the purpose. At least 10% of teachers in Higher Secondary schools would be trained during 2000-2001 itself. Incentive being provided to attract teachers and to encourage them to complete successfully.
Computer laboratories would be established in all Government schools by the year 2003 in partnership with private sector. About 150 schools to be covered in the first year i.e. 2000-2001. Government is encouraging the aided schools to set up computer labs with the private sector.
Government would launch literacy campaigns in slum areas using IT. A pilot project in the slum colony with 30 computer kiosks would be set up to enable children to learn computer schools without any adult intervention.
Government shall upgrade ITIs to provide training of skills for data entry, marketing transcription, call centres, content creation and data processing to give boost to IT enabled services.
Government to encourage the private sector to set up training centres for the unemployed educated youth.. 10 centres to start in 2000-2001.
Initiated steps to establish an IT Open University.
Encourage technical courses in university schools.
Intends setting up a premier IIIT.
Intends setting up a Digital Media Library - a storehouse of digitized data containing Government records, industry information and information education, tourism and archeology.
Convergence of various technologies being used for spread of literacy and education.
